300 Hour Module // Yoga for Aging Gracefully

300 / 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)300 Hour Module: Yoga for Aging Gracefully

In this module, we will discuss how our bodies age and specifically how yoga for aging gracefully can improve and preserve our strength, mobility & flexibility as we age. This support staying as active and productive as possible in our later years.

There are so many ways we can assist our senior population in our yoga classes as instructors, so they feel safe, supported and comfortable enough to move their bodies and practice yoga at any age.

Aging usually brings many changes and alterations in our lives and yoga can help ease these transitions softening our resistance to these changes in circumstances. Teachers will learn how to adapt and modify class designs and outlines for this population in addition to learning how to specifically offer props and modifications for this population’s comfort and stability.

This module will be taught by Jay MacDonald and Lynda Saffell. To learn more about them, click here.

300 Hour Module // Proper Ethical Boundaries in Yoga

300 / 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)300 Hour Module: Proper Ethical Boundaries in Yoga

This module will review in depth the scope of our practice as yoga teachers and why it is so important to respect those boundaries for ourselves and our students.

There is a sacred trust that should be preserved and protected with the reception of confidential information from our students which we will discuss and dissect.

We will discuss a variety of situations and scenarios that may arise in our yoga classes and how best to handle those situations while staying in the ethical boundaries designed to protect the safety and sanctity of the relationship between teacher and student.

We will go over specific techniques for handling emotional releases and outbursts in a classroom setting in addition to a variety of probable and possible scenarios that may test boundaries and limitations of individual yoga instructors. Acknowledging our own limitations as yoga teachers can help us better serve our yoga students and their needs in a safe and supportive environment.

This module will be taught by Jay MacDonald. To learn more about her, click here.

300 Hour Module // Pranayama, Mudras, and Bandhas

300 / 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)300 Hour Module: Pranayama, Mudras, and Bandhas

In this module, we will explore pranayama, mudras, and bandhas – and how they are integral to the study & practice of Yoga.

Learn how the different pranayama practices learning how to refine the practice and teaching of them, how to weave them seamlessly into a yoga class, and when is the best time to practice them in terms of the time of day, time of year, and why this is important.

Participants will also learn a variety of mudras and how to know best when to add them into yoga classes and what each mudra is designed to do in the body. Mudras, in conjunction with breathwork, are often used as a tool to redirect and channel energy in the body in the practice of yoga.

In fact, mudras, pranayama, and asana can be used together to expand mindfulness, awareness and consciousness. Using hand gestures in prayer and devotion is common practice across many spiritual disciplines and religions.

Bandhas are energetic locks in the body designed to control and release the flow of energy and breath in certain directions. These seals are powerful tools and should be used carefully and respected as such when teaching and or practicing them in a yoga class. We will discuss and practice the three main bandhas with an emphasis on how to properly instruct how to engage, then release each one.

This module will be taught by Jay MacDonald. To learn more about her, click here.

“Life Changing” –

As the intensity of 2020 shows no sign of letting up in early 2021, what tools are you using to stay healthy and sane? Knowledge of the chakras can help us stay balanced and calm in the midst of chaos & intensity.

By learning about these centers of electricity in the body – that affect everything from hormones to energy levels – we gain deeper understanding of both ourselves and the world around us.

As we tune into the intricate dance between our experience as humans and the rhythms of the natural world, we gain confidence, calm, and clarity. In exploring the ancient wisdom of the chakras, we examine our habitual patterns, inviting and making space for change, healing, and growth.

With more lockdowns looming, this could be the perfect time for a deep dive into yourself! Our year-long Chakra Deep Dive series is a chance to better understand how our growth from infancy impacts our daily lives, and how challenges we face in the here & now are connected to past experiences. By exploring the offerings of the chakras, we are better able to make sense of how we – and others – show up in the world.

We could all certainly use more compassion, understanding, and better communication as we approach the twelve month mark of this tumultuous past year. We’ve got a few virtual spots left in the 2021 program – click here to claim yours!

What’s Your Hangup!?

We all have them: hangups that become obstacles to meeting our goals. They’re valid, legitimate, and deserve to be honored & addressed! We’ve heard from several of you over the past few months who want to commit to our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) program in 2021, but have specific concerns. Thank you for sharing what matters to you, and for letting us address these common hangups to YTT! ♥

Obstacles to Yoga Teacher Training

Time

Yes, it’s a big commitment! But isn’t anything in life that really matters? Especially a journey of self-discovery that offers tools & resources for the rest of your life… Given that COVID will most likely alter our usual routines & schedules for at least the next six months (if not longer), this could actually be the perfect time to take the plunge.

Perhaps you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum: busier than ever, despite COVID. If you’re ready for this journey now but have prior commitments on one of the scheduled weekends, don’t let that stop you! We offer makeup options to accommodate the realities of busy modern life. Contact us for details…

Whether you have extra time right now – or are crazy busy – you are worth this investment of time and energy! ♥

(If it is safe to get out & about in six months, our program schedule offers the summer off, so you can get out and enjoy the world again! 🙂 )

Money

We get it: it’s all about the Benjamins. That’s true for all of us. However, don’t forget that the sooner you commit to our program, the less you pay! If you’ve been sitting on the fence, you could literally be costing yourself. Click here for price tier details.

Also, keep in mind that our program is more affordable than any other we’ve seen in the Southeast – and the cost of our reading list is less than other schools’ too. If you’re committed to getting your RYT-200, why not get the most bang for your buck?

Nerves

One of the most beautiful things that yoga offers each of us is the opportunity to face our fears and challenge our egos. “Am I strong enough? Am I smart enough? But I have that shoulder injury… I’ve only been practicing for a few years. What if they find out who I really am?”

You are strong enough. You are smart enough. Your Yoga is ready to receive your injuries, your past traumas, and all of the parts of yourself that you don’t like or are afraid to show the world. Your Yoga can support healing for every aspect of your life and every level of your being.

Our program doesn’t promise to fix your old injuries, or heal your deepest wounds. But it does provide the framework for you to heal – and take the best care possible – of yourself. It will give you the tools to prevent injury going forward and address injuries when they can’t be avoided. It will offer you the chance to realize that you’re more than enough, exactly the way you are.

Ready?

The next program starts on January 23, 2021 – we’re ready if you are! Click here to get started; or contact us if you need more information. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have: ytt@waynesvilleyogacenter.com // 828.246.6570

Still Not Sure?

Leigh-Ann has been practicing yoga since 1997 and teaching it since 2005. She is attracted to fluid vinyasa styles, including moon salutations, and loves to geek out about yoga “off the mat” – such as how the philosophies behind the physical postures can enrich our journey, both for ourselves and for others. She is honored to co-teach the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program at Waynesville Yoga Center, and loves facilitating healing services to the community. A writer, dancer, massage therapist, creative marketing nerd, and proud Mom, she can be found travelling, enjoying the rhythm of the seasons, or soaking up the natural world when not working.

300 / 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)

Do you have your 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification? Do you want to take your teaching (or learning) journey to the next level? Have you been considering a 300/500 hour YTT program in order to get your RYT-500 status?

Join Waynesville Yoga Center for an accessible, efficient, and fun 300/500 hour YTT program!

WYC’s 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training offers several unique advantages:

// intimate group > some training programs are so packed, you feel like you’re lost in the crowd (and this can feel even worse when they’re conducted via Zoom!). Our yoga teacher training programs are only open to a limited number of participants, so you’re always part of an intimate, supportive group.

This can not only make you more successful, logistically, in the program – it also helps you gain safe, supportive access to the deeper and more vulnerable aspects of advanced Yoga studies.

// unique modules > our 300 hour program offers some unique modules not found in other trainings, such as Trauma Knowledge in Yoga – or Yoga for Hand & Wrist Issues.

We believe that taking our practice off the mat is a vital function of living the 8 limbs and are excited to offer some “outside the box” modules for your Yoga education.

// 2 – 5 years to compete the program > learn at your own pace, on your schedule!

// held in beautiful, calm Haywood County > why fight the traffic, intensity, and crazy parking of the city when you can complete your training at our gorgeous, retreat-like location?!

Waynesville Yoga is located in a beautiful historic building, just off Main Street: you get the convenience of being downtown but the quiet feeling of private space. Enjoy our beautiful wrap-around porch when it’s warm – or relax in front of our library fireplace when it’s cool.

// no dogma > while we of course teach the history of Yoga – according to Yoga Alliance standards – we don’t espouse any particular religion or belief system. While Yoga acknowledges the unseen presence of spirit or soul – and seeks to reconnect body with that soul – we don’t adhere to any particular dogma. We’ve had folks of many faiths tell us they appreciate this adherence to acceptance vs. a particular dogma.

// more affordable > our 300 hour program is more affordable than any other comparable training we’ve found in the Southeast.

// realistic schedule > we realize that many of you work during the week, so all of our modules are held on the weekends: Friday evenings, all day Saturdays and half-day Sundays. This is not only more realistic & convenient for a typical work schedule, it also means you’ll have at least some of your weekend left!

  • “I waited years looking for the right yoga teacher training program and WYC was definitely the reason why. I’m absolutely convinced I could not have found a program that was more creative, inclusive, or supportive. I would definitely attribute that to the meticulous design of the curriculum and incredibly talented teachers you brought in to lead so many cool facets of the course. You drew in some of the most amazing students with all this awesomeness and I’ve been so thrilled to learn alongside them this year so thank you, thank you, thank you for every last delicious bit of it.”

    – CJH

  • “Thank you all so much for offering this. It has truly been a gift in my life and I am very grateful to be part of this class!”

    – Kristen, B

  • “I woke up one morning and realized I was 60 years old, that I could live well into my 80s and that I had to do something to improve my strength and stamina if I wanted a good quality of life. I was caring for small grandchildren periodically, and it exhausted me.

As soon as I saw Waynesville Yoga Center was opening, I came. I am so thankful to Jay for a place where I feel safe, not self-conscious, and where I can attend classes that benefit me without feeling in competition with anyone else. Restorative and Yin have improved my flexibility and meditation skills; Beginner Flow, Flow Level 1 and Gentle Chair Yoga have increased my strength and balance and also challenged me, as has Barre and Balance!

I feel better than I ever have – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I have met so many new friends. All of the instructors I have had are wonderful and willing to share of themselves. Thank you, Jay, your endeavor is making a tremendous difference in so many lives!”

    – Terri M.

  • “After my first private session with Amber my body felt so good! Because of her guidance and personal assisting I highly recommend working with her.”

    – Barbara B.

  • “I haven’t felt this good since I got my puppy, ten years ago!…”

    – Steve S.

  • “Amber is an incredibly gifted instructor, particularly when it comes to yoga. She is calming, thorough, and provides that extra-added touch of essential oils, gentle adjustments, and themed practices. I love that Amber’s yoga classes are dynamic and she’s taught moves in her classes that I’ve never done in 15 years of practicing yoga. She’s a breath of fresh air in the yoga scene. I highly recommend her!”

    – Christine G.

  • “WYC YTT has given me such tremendous depth in my practice of yoga on and off the mat. I’ve loved seeing my evolution this year as I learned all the ways I can add yoga to my home and work life. I started just expecting to build a stronger personal practice, but now I am so excited to see where this will all take me in the years to come.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “With all of my health issues, I never would have believed I could ever learn to teach yoga. WYC’s Real Yoga for Real Bodies built my confidence as a leader, reminding me that my journey is my strength, and I will actually be a better teacher because of the challenges I’ve experienced. Thank you so much for creating a program that encouraged us to bring the beauty and the beast through this incredible transformation.”

    – CJH

  • “Jay met me prior to class to help me polish my yoga teaching skills. I really appreciate her willingness to meet and teach me to make me a better instructor.”

    – Brooke H.

  • “One of the things I have loved about the program is that we are not just learning how to teach certain poses; I have been learning things I didn’t even know I could learn about yoga in general, including about the subtle energies, how they tie to both anatomy and the philosophy of yoga.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “Amber, you’re an incredible teacher! You are a natural at creating flows that challenge and inspire your students.”

    – Michelle G.C.

  • “Jay is a wonderful yoga instructor; has great variety in classes; is always dependable (there and on time); is kind and understanding; and always available to answer questions and give additional instruction if necessary. She is calm and classes are enjoyable no matter the challenge.”

    – Myndie S.

  • “My experience during my YTT at WYC has not only increased my confidence on the mat but has opened up endless possibilities and opportunities for a courageous, confident, and grateful life off the mat. “

    – Teresa F.

  • “When I first began practicing yoga, it seemed like the more I learned, the more I wanted to know. I bought a few books but still didn’t feel like a real student of the practice of yoga. When the 200 hour YTT was offered, I saw it as the perfect chance to really expand my knowledge. I have come to realize that with this deep dive into the practice of yoga, I have a strong knowledge bank that will allow me to continue to expand my knowledge of yoga for years to come.”

    – Jann F.

  • “Since I started taking classes at Waynesville Yoga Center, I can now go down the stairs ‘normally’, instead of one foot at a time. I’m really pleased with how these classes are helping me.”

    – Carol L.

  • “Jay is an always-patient, highly skilled teacher who makes everyone feel welcome and able to participate. Her class is always a joy and rewarding.”

    – Barbara S.

  • “What has set the program apart for me, as well, is the approach to teaching that encourages us not to focus on a “perfect” pose, but rather perfecting a pose within our bodies and the bodies of our students. This means everyone’s expression of a pose will be slightly different, and there is such beauty in that. It runs counter to so much that we are taught elsewhere in life.”

    – Kristen, B

  • “That special moment when your body, mind and spirit blend into a yummy synchronized yogic OHMMMMMMM……..yeah, YTT has given me like a hundred of those so far! You guys are awesome!”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “Jay takes time to answer questions, to give help when needed in performing movements and is a gentle, calm person which helps my yoga experience.”

    – Anita S.

  • I signed up for YTT thinking I had time to myself to focus on me, but the world has other plans. It’s still the best decision I’ve made, and I am so grateful that what I have learned has come to me at a time that I can apply it to so much real world trauma. This YTT has been a saving grace!

    – Kim T.

  • “YTT provided me with the tools and knowledge to deepen my own yoga practice and help others with theirs. This program challenged me in unforeseen ways and I am so thankful to have experienced this journey with such incredible teachers and fellow students. It was truly a life-changing experience.”

    – Hayley P.
