Ashtanga Yoga: a six week series @ Waynesville Yoga Center
Oct 4 @ 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm
Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient philosophy that was developed over 2000 years ago from the sage, Patanjali, in the Yoga Sutras. Ashtanga literally translates into eight-limbed yoga.

During this six week series, we will touch on each of the eight limbs, with particular attention to the Asana (postures), Pranayama (breath), and Pratyahara (focus). Students will be taken through the entirety of the Primary Series of Ashtanga, with dedicated time to breaking down each Asana.

This series is open to all-levels as the series will be taught with several variations for the postures. Learn about the wonderful nuances that make this practice well-rounded and helpful for any student anywhere on their yoga journey.

Cost: $150. This series is limited to five people so snag your spot ASAP.

Yoga + Introduction to Shamanic Breathwork Workshop @ Waynesville Yoga Center
Oct 7 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Join Kirsten and Melissa for a special Introduction to Shamanic Breathwork in this gentle guided journey & yoga workshop.
Whether you are experiencing Shamanic Breathwork for the very first time or you are a returning journeyer, this workshop is open to all who wish to explore our inner realms and deepen our spiritual practice. In this sacred circle we will explore sacred teachings, use yoga postures to prepare the body and mind, and take a guided journey using music and the breath to clear the chakras and rewrite old patterns. Come take a step on the most important journey in life, the journey from the self to the Self.

The Shamanic Breathwork Process includes…

  • Sacred Space- the protected container required for release, renewal and transformation
  • The Breath- a cyclical breathwork technique that takes the breather into the inner psyche
  • Journey Music- chakra attuned music that guides the journey and shakes up stuck energy
  • Bodywork- gentle support to facilitate movement of energies & emotional release
  • Shamanic Shakti Art Process- intuitive mandala art to ground the journey in non-linear form
  • Group Processing- dynamic support to integrate journeys through story, ritual and community

“Shamanic Breathwork is an outgrowth of depth psychology, ancient indigenous practices, addiction and co-dependency treatment, and modern mind-body medicine research.

In a safe and nurturing environment, you may open to expanded states of consciousness usually only experienced in dreaming: where self-healing is experienced.

This work allows you to release stuck emotions, free creative energy and reaffirm your connection with the divine, while group process aids you in discovering how to apply these healing experiences to everyday living.”

Judy Red Hawk, PhD, RDT

There are only eight spaces available for this workshop. Register below to save yours.

Cost: $88

Modern Yoga Inclusion (Immersion Workshop) @ Waynesville Yoga Center
Dec 9 @ 12:00 pm – Dec 10 @ 11:30 am

Despite the historic gender equality of Tantra, traditional yoga has been largely based upon – and steeped in –the cultural framework of its birthtime and place. This history brought a legacy of inequity and power imbalance in the realms of gender, caste, and genetics (including race and dis/ability) as Yoga was brought to the US.

This immersion explores this history of Yoga; how the #MeToo and other modern movements have impacted the US Yoga scene; and how Yoga is evolving from this foundation. Students will be offered both the historical information and context, as well as practical tools to be a part of Yoga’s growth in inclusivity & equity.

Trainees will learn:
// why and how to promote inclusivity in the yoga classroom

// the concept of allyship and how this is demonstrated in the role of the yoga teacher – specifically covered will be the topics of what it means to be an ally and different types of allies, and in particular, how that relates to teaching yoga

// how to teach Yoga in a way that honors inclusivity and diversity and honor diversity in race and backgrounds of students

// what tools can be used to create an inclusive classroom though personal teaching methodology: creating community, how to embody resilience and wellbeing, how to incorporate Dharma talks, class theming, appropriate language, and techniques that enable instructors to teach to all bodies

// how to teach to different sizes, ability levels, etc. as it relates to inclusivity and diversity in the yoga classroom, and how use of props, modifications, and variations that support an asana practice that is inclusive to all varying anatomical structures

This workshop will be taught by Lisa Manning.

The Ayurvedic Principles in Relation to Yoga (Weekend Immersion Workshop)
Feb 3 @ 12:00 pm – Feb 4 @ 11:30 am

The Ayurvedic Principles in Relation to Yoga

Ayurveda (life)(study) and Yoga (union) are sister sciences birthed at the same time as complementary Vedic practices with a similar goal of finding inner stillness and ultimately Self-realization. Both practices emphasize creating a Sattvic environment for the body, mind, and emotions as a way to deepen our connection with the divine within.
If you have been practicing yoga asana for many years but still feel like you need a boost to advance on the path, the principles of Ayurveda can unlock knowledge to greater health + balance.
In this weekend, you will learn how Ayurveda can elevate your yoga practice and provide you with more tools for vitality, longevity + equanimity.  Here are a few items you will learn…
  • the 5 elements + their relationship to our wellbeing
  • daily routines (Dinacharya) for optimal health
  • yoga practices in relation to dosha
  • diet + loving practices around food
  • practices for the seasons of the year + the seasons of our life
  • the different forms of Ama and its effects on the tissues (dhatus)
  • Ayurvedic + yogic cleansing practices

This immersion will be taught by Candra Smith. To learn more about her, click here.
