Energy Alignment 15 Minute Sample Sessions with Jennifer Avoca Ross @ Waynesville Yoga Center
Aug 16 @ 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Energy Alignment 15 Minute Sample Sessions with Jennifer Avoca Ross @ Waynesville Yoga Center

Interested in a 15 minute energy alignment sample session?

An Energy Alignment session is meant to help you achieve a more relaxed state – the base for better healing and insights – and energetic harmony through energy work, guided visualization, sound/vibration with the Bioacoustic Mat + intuitive insights.

What can I expect during a full Energy Alignment session?

We’ll begin with a brief check-in chat to see how you are feeling. Then you will lay on top of the Bioacoustic Mat (which is on top of a massage table) fully clothed. The mat plays the music I choose, and vibrates underneath you in tune with the music – the vibrations are also set to different frequencies to help relax different muscle groups. I will provide energy work (which I do hands-on to help create a more personal, nurturing experience), and also lead you on a guided journey to assist the relaxation & help you open to your own insights. Afterwards, we’ll chat about your experience, and I’ll offer any intuitive insights that came through during the process. Sessions run approximately 50-60 min, and are tailored to what you need that day so no two will be the same.

Click here to learn more about Jennifer.

Call or head to our class calendar to reserve one of the sample sessions below. You’ll also receive a 15% discount on your first full session.

Re-Aligning Your Boundaries Workshop for Women + Restorative Yoga Practice @ Waynesville Yoga Center
Aug 28 @ 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Inside this safe women’s circle, you’ll explore healthy and unhealthy boundaries and how they show up for you while taking into consideration what feels most important for your self-care and desires in life.

Without setting sacred boundaries thoughts that include “I should,” “I can’t,” and “I don’t deserve” can override the thinking mind and keep you from doing for yourself while feeling obligated towards others.  We’ll also investigate what happens when the boundaries we set for ourselves become too restrictive. As a collective, we can begin to shift into a place of positivity, peace, and transformative confidence.

To integrate what you’ve learned Amber will treat you to a nourishing Restorative Yoga practice which will allow time to tune inward. You’ll be gifted with self-soothing, well-deserved yoga postures you can use anytime to come back home to yourself.

Please bring a journal and any props that will make your experience comfortable such as a mat and blanket. Click here to learn more about Amber Kleid or check out her website here.

Myofascial Release Workshop @ Waynesville Yoga Center
Aug 28 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Fascia is gaining recognition as an incredibly important connective tissue for your preventative health as well as the source of constrictions that result from injury or over use that cause chronic pain.
This unique workshop allows for plenty of hands on myofascial release from Tara in the restorative positions.  If you have attended Tara’s weekly class and wanted “more” or if you are curious about the modality of myofascial release as bodywork, this workshop is for you!
Class size is limited to only 4 participants so sign up early!

What is Myofascial Release (John Barnes technique)?
The John Barnes technique of myofascial release is a gentle hands on modality.  The therapist uses gentle sustained pressure held a minimum of 3 minutes to affect the fascia allowing it to elongate and rehydrate the ground matrix of the tissues.  This is highly effective in treating chronic pain at its source.  The pressure is held without lubricants on the skin so that the fascia is able to be gently stretched without the therapist’s hands sliding.  Myofascial release has been found to be highly effective in treating a myriad of conditions from TMJ dysfunction to urinary issues to fibromyalgia and much more.  It is also a recommended adjunct to PT after surgery. For more information about the John Barnes technique click here.

Yoga & Myth: Going Deeper

Yoga & Myth: Going Deeper

Our brains are wired to interpret the world around us through myth, archetype, and storytelling. It’s why we continue to gravitate to the narratives of movies, books, and TV shows, even in our profoundly digital age. We instinctively respond to these ancient patterns: they help process and make sense of our experiences. It’s literally the roadmap of how our brains work, and combining it with the science of Yoga produces some powerful medicine!

If you’re ready for a deeper dive into your body and soul, join Leigh-Ann for Yoga & Myth: combining the primal archetypes that our brains with the magic of Yoga. We’ll meet every 6 weeks throughout the year (8 times total) for a 2 hour class that engages the senses on every level.

In between classes, you’ll receive weekly emails with home practices, meditations, and journal prompts that help you move through 2 seminal books (Women Who Run With the Wolves, by Clarissa Pinkola Estes – and Cassandra Speaks, by Elizabeth Lesser) – and support you in more deeply integrating what we practice in class.

Learn how to let go of resistance to change, which causes suffering, and the illusion of control over all things. Become more adaptable and flexible in mind, body, and spirit for a healthier and happier you!

| Sunday, September 25th

| 6:30-8:00pm: Opening Circle: Welcome and Easy/Accessible Chair Yoga

| led by Tara Scarborough

Come together for an easy and accessible chair yoga class, ending with an intention setting for the retreat.

| Monday, September 26th

| 9:00am-12pm: Adaptive Yoga for Seniors

|  led by Jay MacDonald

As we age, a sedentary lifestyle can cause a loss of strength, stability, and mobility in our bodies. We have to fight harder and work harder at keeping our bodies strong and mobile so we can do the things we love with ease and comfort! The first 75 minutes of this session will be a workshop on the importance of keeping an active and mobile lifestyle at any age and overcoming any fears including falling or getting injured. There will be time for Q&A after this workshop.

The class with Jay will address common age-related issues such as osteoporosis, joint replacement, problems with balance and coordination, and much, much more! Immediately following will be an adaptive chair yoga class that focuses specifically on balance and stability –accessible to all levels!

| 1:30-4:30pm: Nutrition At Any Age + Yoga At Any Age

| led by Sara Lewis

Whatever your age, it’s important to eat a healthy, balanced diet. In this workshop, we will discuss nutrients and tips to keep in mind to maintain energy and strengthen your immune system as you age. For example, sufficient vitamin D is critical to prevent bone loss, and the requirements for calcium and B12 increase as those nutrients are not as readily absorbed from food as you age. Also, iron and fiber become more important. In addition, there are certain foods and drinks you should avoid as you age.

Part of any yoga practice is to accept yourself where you are at any point in time. Some of you may be returning to yoga after many years, just beginning or continuing a regular practice. Wherever you are on your journey, you are not too old! Some of the many benefits of yoga, at any age, include: better mobility, increased energy, stronger bones, improved blood circulation, better sleep and improved flexibility, posture and balance. The latter is especially important to age gracefully. A regular yoga practice increases proprioception (ability to feel what your body is doing and where it is in space), which improves balance. The yoga practice in this session with Sara Lewis will combine a series of gentle yin and balance poses. Yin yoga poses target connective tissues such as ligaments, joints and even bones. You will leave the class feeling calm, balanced, and energized.

| 6:30-8:00pm:Candlelight Yin and Yoga Nidra

| led by Natalie Lembeck

This class will consist of easeful stretching, accessing the connective tissue in addition to the muscles, and long posture holds. The class will be restorative and soothing to the nervous system with soft lighting. Natalie will guide the retreat through a blissful Yoga Nidra to promote ease and comfort.

| Tuesday, September 27th

| 9am-12pm: Restorative Yoga and the Nervous System

| led by Amber Kleid

As we age, change is inevitable. But the saying goes, “Change is not painful, only the resistance to change is painful.” In this workshop with Amber Kleid, you will learn the importance of the nervous system and how to keep yours healthy and happy so you can be more flexible and adaptable as life circumstances change and evolve.

The workshop will be followed by a yummy and soothing Restorative class designed to calm and soften the mind and body.

| 1:30-4:30pm: Self Care

| led by Lynda Saffell

Self care is important at any age but it is critical as we age to keep up a self-care regimen that keeps us healthy and happy. In this workshop, we will explore a range of self care options to keep you youthful and energized. These options will include massage, yoga, social interaction, and many more. The class will introduce self massage and yoga poses accessible to all levels.

| 6:30-8pm: Candlelight Gentle Yoga + Meditation / Closing Circle

|  led by Jay MacDonald

This Gentle Yoga class is a slow-paced, soft and nurturing practice supported by props. Set under soft, candle lighting, this class will be the perfect way to relax and restore at the end of the retreat. Following the class, Jay will lead a centering meditation and closing circle.

Hormones rule the world, and our bodies! Let this immersive workshop, Yoga for Hormone Health, empower you with knowledge, tools, and practices to harness these amazing chemicals.

Hormones are “a regulatory substance produced in an organism and transported in tissue fluids such as blood or sap to stimulate specific cells or tissues into action.” (Definition from Oxford Languages)

Yoga for Hypermobility (Immersion Workshop)
Dec 21 @ 3:22 pm – 4:22 pm

COMING SOON IN 2023

Yoga for Hypermobility is somewhat of a misnomer, as those with hypermobility are often discouraged from practicing Yoga, due to the risk of injury it can pose.

However, as you’ll discover in this immersion workshop, certain types of Yoga – and ways of practicing – can help support individuals with hypermobility.

These students are often attracted to yoga because of their flexibility and ease in asana. However, they often don’t have the information needed to protect their bodies and can seriously injure themselves in practice.

To ensure safe classes for all students, Yoga teachers must become more aware of the prevalence of hypermobility in students, the tendency of people with it to be drawn to Yoga, and how they as instructors can foster safe practice for their students (and perhaps themselves).

The purpose of this immersion is to provide students with proper techniques and practices to facilitate proper alignment and movement for individuals who live with hypermobility. Students in this workshop will be better prepared to write sequences, provide good assists/adjustments, and helpful cues to ensure the strength and safety of class attendees.

The content of this workshop will be comprised of lecture/discussion/guided practice/peer teaching. This workshop will be taught by Leigh-Ann Renz. To learn more about her, click here.

Pranayama, Mudras, and Bandhas (Immersion Workshop) @ Waynesville Yoga Center
Dec 21 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

COMING SOON IN 2023: Pranayama, Mudras, and Bandhas

In this immersive workshop, we will explore pranayama, mudras, and bandhas – and how they are integral to the study & practice of Yoga.

Learn how the different pranayama practices learning how to refine the practice and teaching of them, how to weave them seamlessly into a yoga class, and when is the best time to practice them in terms of the time of day, time of year, and why this is important.

Participants will also learn a variety of mudras and how to know best when to add them into yoga classes and what each mudra is designed to do in the body. Mudras, in conjunction with breathwork, are often used as a tool to redirect and channel energy in the body in the practice of yoga.

In fact, mudras, pranayama, and asana can be used together to expand mindfulness, awareness and consciousness. Using hand gestures in prayer and devotion is common practice across many spiritual disciplines and religions.

Bandhas are energetic locks in the body designed to control and release the flow of energy and breath in certain directions. These seals are powerful tools and should be used carefully and respected as such when teaching and or practicing them in a yoga class. We will discuss and practice the three main bandhas with an emphasis on how to properly instruct how to engage, then release each one.

This workshop will be taught by Candra Smith. To learn more about her, click here.  There is also an option to attend this virtually. Please note upon registration.

  • “Jay met me prior to class to help me polish my yoga teaching skills. I really appreciate her willingness to meet and teach me to make me a better instructor.”

    – Brooke H.

  • “Since I started taking classes at Waynesville Yoga Center, I can now go down the stairs ‘normally’, instead of one foot at a time. I’m really pleased with how these classes are helping me.”

    – Carol L.

  • “What has set the program apart for me, as well, is the approach to teaching that encourages us not to focus on a “perfect” pose, but rather perfecting a pose within our bodies and the bodies of our students. This means everyone’s expression of a pose will be slightly different, and there is such beauty in that. It runs counter to so much that we are taught elsewhere in life.”

    – Kristen, B

  • “One of the things I have loved about the program is that we are not just learning how to teach certain poses; I have been learning things I didn’t even know I could learn about yoga in general, including about the subtle energies, how they tie to both anatomy and the philosophy of yoga.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “Amber, you’re an incredible teacher! You are a natural at creating flows that challenge and inspire your students.”

    – Michelle G.C.

  • “After my first private session with Amber my body felt so good! Because of her guidance and personal assisting I highly recommend working with her.”

    – Barbara B.

  • I signed up for YTT thinking I had time to myself to focus on me, but the world has other plans. It’s still the best decision I’ve made, and I am so grateful that what I have learned has come to me at a time that I can apply it to so much real world trauma. This YTT has been a saving grace!

    – Kim T.

  • “When I first began practicing yoga, it seemed like the more I learned, the more I wanted to know. I bought a few books but still didn’t feel like a real student of the practice of yoga. When the 200 hour YTT was offered, I saw it as the perfect chance to really expand my knowledge. I have come to realize that with this deep dive into the practice of yoga, I have a strong knowledge bank that will allow me to continue to expand my knowledge of yoga for years to come.”

    – Jann F.

  • “I woke up one morning and realized I was 60 years old, that I could live well into my 80s and that I had to do something to improve my strength and stamina if I wanted a good quality of life. I was caring for small grandchildren periodically, and it exhausted me.

As soon as I saw Waynesville Yoga Center was opening, I came. I am so thankful to Jay for a place where I feel safe, not self-conscious, and where I can attend classes that benefit me without feeling in competition with anyone else. Restorative and Yin have improved my flexibility and meditation skills; Beginner Flow, Flow Level 1 and Gentle Chair Yoga have increased my strength and balance and also challenged me, as has Barre and Balance!

I feel better than I ever have – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I have met so many new friends. All of the instructors I have had are wonderful and willing to share of themselves. Thank you, Jay, your endeavor is making a tremendous difference in so many lives!”

    – Terri M.

  • “My experience during my YTT at WYC has not only increased my confidence on the mat but has opened up endless possibilities and opportunities for a courageous, confident, and grateful life off the mat. “

    – Teresa F.

  • “With all of my health issues, I never would have believed I could ever learn to teach yoga. WYC’s Real Yoga for Real Bodies built my confidence as a leader, reminding me that my journey is my strength, and I will actually be a better teacher because of the challenges I’ve experienced. Thank you so much for creating a program that encouraged us to bring the beauty and the beast through this incredible transformation.”

    – CJH

  • “Thank you all so much for offering this. It has truly been a gift in my life and I am very grateful to be part of this class!”

    – Kristen, B

  • “I waited years looking for the right yoga teacher training program and WYC was definitely the reason why. I’m absolutely convinced I could not have found a program that was more creative, inclusive, or supportive. I would definitely attribute that to the meticulous design of the curriculum and incredibly talented teachers you brought in to lead so many cool facets of the course. You drew in some of the most amazing students with all this awesomeness and I’ve been so thrilled to learn alongside them this year so thank you, thank you, thank you for every last delicious bit of it.”

    – CJH

  • “Jay is a wonderful yoga instructor; has great variety in classes; is always dependable (there and on time); is kind and understanding; and always available to answer questions and give additional instruction if necessary. She is calm and classes are enjoyable no matter the challenge.”

    – Myndie S.

  • “Jay is an always-patient, highly skilled teacher who makes everyone feel welcome and able to participate. Her class is always a joy and rewarding.”

    – Barbara S.

  • “YTT provided me with the tools and knowledge to deepen my own yoga practice and help others with theirs. This program challenged me in unforeseen ways and I am so thankful to have experienced this journey with such incredible teachers and fellow students. It was truly a life-changing experience.”

    – Hayley P.

  • “That special moment when your body, mind and spirit blend into a yummy synchronized yogic OHMMMMMMM……..yeah, YTT has given me like a hundred of those so far! You guys are awesome!”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “WYC YTT has given me such tremendous depth in my practice of yoga on and off the mat. I’ve loved seeing my evolution this year as I learned all the ways I can add yoga to my home and work life. I started just expecting to build a stronger personal practice, but now I am so excited to see where this will all take me in the years to come.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “I haven’t felt this good since I got my puppy, ten years ago!…”

    – Steve S.

  • “Amber is an incredibly gifted instructor, particularly when it comes to yoga. She is calming, thorough, and provides that extra-added touch of essential oils, gentle adjustments, and themed practices. I love that Amber’s yoga classes are dynamic and she’s taught moves in her classes that I’ve never done in 15 years of practicing yoga. She’s a breath of fresh air in the yoga scene. I highly recommend her!”

    – Christine G.

  • “Jay takes time to answer questions, to give help when needed in performing movements and is a gentle, calm person which helps my yoga experience.”

    – Anita S.
