Announcing 2022 Yoga Teacher Training Dates & Details!

Where has this year gone!? As much as 2020 seemed to last forever, 2021 is flying past – it will be Christmas again before you know it! If you’re also watching the calendar flip by, we’ve got some 2022 dates for you to save: 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)! We’d love to have you join us for this life-changing adventure, and we’re excited to offer some changes to next year’s program:

More Consistent Schedule

In years past, we offered summers off, as many of our attendees travel, have kids who are on break from school, are school teachers themselves, etc. But we’ve gotten feedback from many of our graduates that the summer break made it too easy to get out of the habit of reading and keeping their heads in the YTT game. While they appreciated the time to catch up on the reading list, it also let them veer off track.

Additionally, they asked for more regularity in the calendar dates, to better support their learning momentum. Based on those requests, we’ve decided to try a more consistent schedule: a 10 month program – with at least 4 weeks in between each class – providing structure, consistency, and space to absorb the content.

(We do encourage students to start the reading list as soon as they sign up, as this will cultivate balance & calm during the program! 🙂)

More Spots Available

Now that covid is (thankfully!) fading, and we no longer have to socially distance in the studio, we can offer 2 more spots in the program. With a max of 14 participants accepted, you can still count on a supportive, intimate group. The honesty & connection that comes with a smaller group makes you a better teacher; and the focused teacher attention makes it easier to learn.

If you’ve been considering YTT, snag your spot now. We’ve already got a few people registered for the 2022 program, and expect to fill quickly. Remember that the earlier you pay your deposit, the less you pay overall**. We’re keeping the same rates as 2020, so what are you waiting for? Click here to commit to the journey! 🙂

**
// 1st 4 people to sign up pay $2,250
// 2nd 4 people to sign up pay $2,500
// final 6 people to sign up pay $2,750

“Life Changing” –

As the intensity of 2020 shows no sign of letting up in early 2021, what tools are you using to stay healthy and sane? Knowledge of the chakras can help us stay balanced and calm in the midst of chaos & intensity.

By learning about these centers of electricity in the body – that affect everything from hormones to energy levels – we gain deeper understanding of both ourselves and the world around us.

As we tune into the intricate dance between our experience as humans and the rhythms of the natural world, we gain confidence, calm, and clarity. In exploring the ancient wisdom of the chakras, we examine our habitual patterns, inviting and making space for change, healing, and growth.

With more lockdowns looming, this could be the perfect time for a deep dive into yourself! Our year-long Chakra Deep Dive series is a chance to better understand how our growth from infancy impacts our daily lives, and how challenges we face in the here & now are connected to past experiences. By exploring the offerings of the chakras, we are better able to make sense of how we – and others – show up in the world.

We could all certainly use more compassion, understanding, and better communication as we approach the twelve month mark of this tumultuous past year. We’ve got a few virtual spots left in the 2021 program – click here to claim yours!

What’s Your Hangup!?

We all have them: hangups that become obstacles to meeting our goals. They’re valid, legitimate, and deserve to be honored & addressed! We’ve heard from several of you over the past few months who want to commit to our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) program in 2021, but have specific concerns. Thank you for sharing what matters to you, and for letting us address these common hangups to YTT! ♥

Obstacles to Yoga Teacher Training

Time

Yes, it’s a big commitment! But isn’t anything in life that really matters? Especially a journey of self-discovery that offers tools & resources for the rest of your life… Given that COVID will most likely alter our usual routines & schedules for at least the next six months (if not longer), this could actually be the perfect time to take the plunge.

Perhaps you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum: busier than ever, despite COVID. If you’re ready for this journey now but have prior commitments on one of the scheduled weekends, don’t let that stop you! We offer makeup options to accommodate the realities of busy modern life. Contact us for details…

Whether you have extra time right now – or are crazy busy – you are worth this investment of time and energy! ♥

(If it is safe to get out & about in six months, our program schedule offers the summer off, so you can get out and enjoy the world again! 🙂 )

Money

We get it: it’s all about the Benjamins. That’s true for all of us. However, don’t forget that the sooner you commit to our program, the less you pay! If you’ve been sitting on the fence, you could literally be costing yourself. Click here for price tier details.

Also, keep in mind that our program is more affordable than any other we’ve seen in the Southeast – and the cost of our reading list is less than other schools’ too. If you’re committed to getting your RYT-200, why not get the most bang for your buck?

Nerves

One of the most beautiful things that yoga offers each of us is the opportunity to face our fears and challenge our egos. “Am I strong enough? Am I smart enough? But I have that shoulder injury… I’ve only been practicing for a few years. What if they find out who I really am?”

You are strong enough. You are smart enough. Your Yoga is ready to receive your injuries, your past traumas, and all of the parts of yourself that you don’t like or are afraid to show the world. Your Yoga can support healing for every aspect of your life and every level of your being.

Our program doesn’t promise to fix your old injuries, or heal your deepest wounds. But it does provide the framework for you to heal – and take the best care possible – of yourself. It will give you the tools to prevent injury going forward and address injuries when they can’t be avoided. It will offer you the chance to realize that you’re more than enough, exactly the way you are.

Ready?

The next program starts on January 23, 2021 – we’re ready if you are! Click here to get started; or contact us if you need more information. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have: ytt@waynesvilleyogacenter.com // 828.246.6570

Still Not Sure?

We respect your cautious nature! And you looking out for yourself! 🙂 For more help unpacking the pros & cons of committing to a 200 hour program, check out this honest analysis from Body Positive Yoga. It Takes a Toll

First, there was the regular stress of our modern lifestyle: go-go-go, a million places to be at once, and a million things to accomplish at the same time. Most of us were already uber stressed out, trying to maintain overly full schedules and overly ambitious to-do lists. Then COVID hit, bringing with it waves of fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and strife.

A massive financial crisis; violent protests across the nation; a hyper divisive election season; and now another round of holidays, all while still dealing with the aforementioned crises. Whew. As my stepmother says “We’re all breathing the same air”, meaning that we’re all intimately connected and affect one another, whether we choose to recognize that or not.

Even if 2020 has brought blessings and needed change, we are biologically impacted by the suffering of those around us. It’s like how trees affect one another: we can’t escape it, even if we’re in a great space. And many of us are directly in the midst of suffering ourselves.

It’s a lot, and that stress, anxiety, and depression does a number on our bodies – and our minds!

Yes, practicing yoga can help with these challenges; but Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) can teach you how yoga helps. It explains the “science behind the magic” and gives you an enhanced ability to utilize these tools by understanding how they work; when to apply them; and how to maximize their impact.

YTT allows you to not just feel better in the moment yourself – it gives you the ability to make other people feel better, and to help them too. Even if you’re not teaching, you’ll naturally share your new found knowledge with your family, friends, and circles, meaning that the positive impacts of your yoga will extend far beyond your own mat.

In addition, you’ll experience yoga more deeply for yourself. Even if only for your own stress management and wellbeing, YTT empowers you to go far beyond just taking classes into having greater control over your health journey. You’ll learn how to better take care of your body and support it during times of stress, whether that’s the everyday intensity of our post-COVID lives… or getting through the rest of 2020 and all that it has brought to our doorsteps!

We’ve got one more spot left in the middle price tier – and a few more virtual spaces open for our 2021 program. Click here for more details about the program, or email us with specific questions: ytt@waynesvilleyogacenter.com

We Can’t Control the World, but We Can Control Ourselves

(if we’re lucky…)

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we are not in control; the illusions we construct to convince ourselves otherwise are just that; and our attempts to maintain control can cause a lot of suffering. The acceptance of uncertainty is a crucial part of evolution as humans – and as much as it sucks, it’s necessary for growth & inner peace.

The empowering thing is that, if we’re lucky, we can control ourselves. Those of us who have experienced deep suffering understand that even self-control is illusory! There are levels of pain that can strip us to the mercy of our experience, to pure survival, in which we cannot control our circumstances or even our response to them.

And some of us have experienced firsthand that what we think is our nature & character is also volatile! What we have always been able to rely on as our inner constructs are just that: constructs, that can be altered – totally out of our control – by hormones, chemicals, and physical vulnerabilities.

With so much vulnerability and uncertainty, how can we find safety & comfort? As the world around us shakes, where do we find our inner peace?

One way to both face the frightening reality of not having control – and gain more control & clarity within ourselves – is Yoga! In Yoga, we practice not knowing what’s coming next… and leaning into that uncertainty.

We learn how to keep our balance when we’re shaky, and how to keep our breath smooth & steady as we’re being challenged. We become adept at staying cool in the midst of fire.

Yoga helps us face parts of ourselves we may not like and sit in the discomfort of our own minds. We practice finding stillness in the noise, calm in the storm, and being ok with quiet.

Yoga empowers us to realize that we actually don’t need constant distraction to busy our minds. That we are enough, just as we are; and that as we develop a better relationship with ourselves, we’re better able to navigate the world around us.

Learn how you can put Yoga to work more powerfully, deeply, and richly than just taking classes. By investing in Yoga Teacher Training (YTT), you’re not just gaining a certificate (and the skills to back it up) to teach. You’re committing to a journey of self-exploration and evolution that can change the world – by changing yourself.

YTT will teach you how Yoga is so much more than just creating shapes with the body – and give you the background knowledge to see how it can transform lives. It will give you a better understanding of how we all tick, and how we can be our best selves in this crazy world.

We can’t control external circumstances, but we can hope to control our responses to them, especially with the tool of Yoga under our belts. Join us to understand how this all works, and how you can integrate this knowledge.

What Can YTT Do For You!?

what can ytt do for you?I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen pick up our flyer for YTT (Yoga Teacher Training), and put it right back down, saying “Oh no, I don’t want to teach”. You can see the mental block flit through their brain of “Teaching yoga!? Heck naw!!”

Unfortunately, there’s a huge misconception that teaching is the only function of a YTT program. It may seem counterintuitive, but preparing you to teach yoga is actually a positive side benefit of YTT!

YTT is a deep dive into the self. Coming face-to-face with who you really are, after the external constructs have been stripped away. It’s an opportunity to discover your strengths, confront your weaknesses, and ultimately secure a more clear understanding of who you are and where you want to go next.

It’s so funny to watch students get into the training and have that “aha” moment of “oh, I get it: teaching yoga is just a tiny part of this journey!” We actually laugh about it in class as they reach that point of understanding in the training course.

Don’t get me wrong: if you are 110% focused on teaching yoga, YTT will absolutely empower you with the knowledge & skills to do exactly that, successfully. But, if you’re open to more, Yoga Teacher Training offers a richness of experience and solid tools to be a better human.

What Can YTT Do For You!?

// Navigate the Intensity of 2020 – and Beyond

Current times are calling us to discard what no longer serves us, especially from the past, and be very intentional about what we want to bring into our future. Life always asks us to engage in this process; but 2020 has brought it into the forefront for many. It’s joyful, liberating work – but it can also be scary & intense. YTT can assist you in this process of sloughing away what has outlived its usefulness – and empower the next stage of growth for a richer, more expansive future.

While Yoga itself cultivates these invaluable tools, YTT takes it to the next level, sealing into your nervous system and body tissues this ability to find your center, no matter what is happening around you. While always of incredible value, this skill set is immensely beneficial in dealing with the uncertainty and intensity of our new COVID-19 world.

// Build Flexibility & Adaptability

Most people associate Yoga with physical flexibility, but don’t realize how much this informs the non-physical as well. Yoga Teacher Training can help you become more flexible mentally, emotionally, and socially, learning how to have greater compassion & understanding with others. In the divisiveness of the current age, honing our ability to stay within ourselves – while also having increased capacity for healthy communication with others – is invaluable.

YTT can give you practical tools to deal with uncertainty and intensity. One of the whole points of yoga is taking it off the mat: we learn how to face the fear of not knowing what’s coming next. We practice staying calm, steady, and balanced when things are intense and hot. We get comfortable with our discomfort, as we embrace what our bodies bring to the surface. We learn how to embrace what is, versus what we want, and to create the best possible outcome from that acceptance.

// Step Into Your Dharma

Your Dharma is your highest calling, your most important reason for being here. While not every person graduates Yoga Teacher Training with crystal clear knowledge about where to go next, many students gain a huge amount of guidance on where their life is headed. Because YTT supports you in facing your ego, managing your weaknesses, and honing your strengths, it can absolutely help provide direction for your whole life.

You may realize that you actually do, in fact, want to teach yoga – but maybe in a non-traditional setting. Maybe you feel drawn to work a specific population, such as kids or elders. Maybe you start the program with the intention to teach but change your mind during the course, incorporating the knowledge in an entirely different direction. That’s the beauty of YTT: if you’re willing to get a little more authentic with yourself, both on & off your mat, it can change your whole life…

Tools for a New World

There’s no denying that 2020 has been a hot, transformative period – and the future shows no sign of letting up on the intensity! Thankfully, Yoga practices help us stay grounded, curious, calm, peaceful, and even hopeful in times of suffering. It can help us sit in the difficult stuff – and give us tools to navigate an uncertain future.

One of these tools is the science of the chakras: centers of electricity in the body that correspond to organs, endocrine glands, and nerve plexuses. They teach us more about ourselves and the world around us, including how to better be in relation to others. For example, if you struggle with speaking up and advocating for yourself, you most likely have deficiency in the throat chakra, solar plexus chakra, or both.

There are breathing practices, yoga postures, meditation protocols, journal exercises, and many more applications you can implement to healing a chakra deficiency or excess. Just learning more about the chakra system and fostering better balance among these various circuit centers of electricity can cultivate more balance, wholeness, and happiness. And who couldn’t use more of that right now!?

Intro to Chakras

If you’ve never explored the chakras before, join us for a 4 week introductory series:
October 4th – 11th – 18th – and 25th
Sundays, 8:30 – 10 AM > $75 for the full series

Chakra Deep Dive

If you’ve already taken our introductory series and/or have studied the chakras previously, join our next chakra deep dive.

Typically, the chakra system is taught from the bottom up: we establish the first (root) chakra and move up the chain to the seventh (crown) chakra. While that’s a perfectly wonderful way to explore this powerful science, I find more resonance in moving from the top down. The issues covered by the lower three chakras are so immense that most of us have more ease and space in the upper chakras.

I’ve not seen this in any other chakra literature, but in our deep dive series, we start with the chakras that we’re most comfortable, building energy and confidence… so that – by the time we reach them – we’re more clear & better prepared to face the complex issues housed in the lower chakras.

Join us for this powerful, year-long journey of self discovery and knowledge:
// January 31: chakra 7 (crown / surrender, connection to the unseen worlds)
// March 21: chakra 6 (brow / thought, sight, second sight)
// May 2: chakra 5 (throat / self-expression & communication)
// June 20: chakra 4 (heart / community & harmonious connection to others)
// Aug 1: chakra 3 (gut / willpower, energy, self-esteem, boundaries)
// Sept 19: chakra 2 (sacrum / creativity, emotions, sexuality, change, partnership with another)
// Oct 31st: chakra 1 (root / stability, survival, job, money, the body, the planet, ancestors)

Sundays, 8:30 – 10 AM > $20 drop-in or $128 for the full series

Real Yoga for Real Bodies

The old philosophies of Yoga were that you use your body to get into a pose. That you aren’t a real yoga student or can’t be a legit yoga teacher if you can’t do a headstand or an arm balance or a full lotus. Sadly, some schools – and some teachers – still operate from this outdated “mind over matter” perspective.

Thankfully, times are changing; and these outdated dualistic philosophies are evolving into a framework that’s more grounded, balanced, and healthy. We’re proud & honored to be on this cutting edge of yoga’s evolution, understanding that Yoga is for everyone, regardless of age, weight, gender, experience, or level of flexibility!

We know in our bones that yoga is truly for everyone and every body. Our studio motto is “Real Yoga for Real Bodies”; and this informs every decision we make at Waynesville Yoga, including our teacher training. Jay & I love watching people who felt intimidated to try yoga blossom in their practice. We also love seeing people, who never believed they could they teach, find their stride as yoga instructors.

We’re so grateful that yoga itself is healing from its own wounds and imbalances. As it does, more & more of us are coming to understand that the purpose of the poses are to get into our bodies, not the other way around!

If you’ve wanted to explore a 200 hour program, whether to teach or simply dive more deeply into Yoga, but have felt intimidated, check us out. Our program is unique: small class size; lots of one-on-one attention; small, supportive group of peers; relaxing setting… click here for details. When you’re ready to commit to being a part of yoga’s evolution, we’re here.

  • “I waited years looking for the right yoga teacher training program and WYC was definitely the reason why. I’m absolutely convinced I could not have found a program that was more creative, inclusive, or supportive. I would definitely attribute that to the meticulous design of the curriculum and incredibly talented teachers you brought in to lead so many cool facets of the course. You drew in some of the most amazing students with all this awesomeness and I’ve been so thrilled to learn alongside them this year so thank you, thank you, thank you for every last delicious bit of it.”

    – CJH

  • “My experience during my YTT at WYC has not only increased my confidence on the mat but has opened up endless possibilities and opportunities for a courageous, confident, and grateful life off the mat. “

    – Teresa F.

  • “Since I started taking classes at Waynesville Yoga Center, I can now go down the stairs ‘normally’, instead of one foot at a time. I’m really pleased with how these classes are helping me.”

    – Carol L.

  • “Amber, you’re an incredible teacher! You are a natural at creating flows that challenge and inspire your students.”

    – Michelle G.C.

  • “With all of my health issues, I never would have believed I could ever learn to teach yoga. WYC’s Real Yoga for Real Bodies built my confidence as a leader, reminding me that my journey is my strength, and I will actually be a better teacher because of the challenges I’ve experienced. Thank you so much for creating a program that encouraged us to bring the beauty and the beast through this incredible transformation.”

    – CJH

    – Brooke H.

  • “WYC YTT has given me such tremendous depth in my practice of yoga on and off the mat. I’ve loved seeing my evolution this year as I learned all the ways I can add yoga to my home and work life. I started just expecting to build a stronger personal practice, but now I am so excited to see where this will all take me in the years to come.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “Jay is a wonderful yoga instructor; has great variety in classes; is always dependable (there and on time); is kind and understanding; and always available to answer questions and give additional instruction if necessary. She is calm and classes are enjoyable no matter the challenge.”

    – Myndie S.

  • “I haven’t felt this good since I got my puppy, ten years ago!…”

    – Steve S.

  • “When I first began practicing yoga, it seemed like the more I learned, the more I wanted to know. I bought a few books but still didn’t feel like a real student of the practice of yoga. When the 200 hour YTT was offered, I saw it as the perfect chance to really expand my knowledge. I have come to realize that with this deep dive into the practice of yoga, I have a strong knowledge bank that will allow me to continue to expand my knowledge of yoga for years to come.”

    – Jann F.

  • “One of the things I have loved about the program is that we are not just learning how to teach certain poses; I have been learning things I didn’t even know I could learn about yoga in general, including about the subtle energies, how they tie to both anatomy and the philosophy of yoga.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • I signed up for YTT thinking I had time to myself to focus on me, but the world has other plans. It’s still the best decision I’ve made, and I am so grateful that what I have learned has come to me at a time that I can apply it to so much real world trauma. This YTT has been a saving grace!

    – Kim T.

  • “I woke up one morning and realized I was 60 years old, that I could live well into my 80s and that I had to do something to improve my strength and stamina if I wanted a good quality of life. I was caring for small grandchildren periodically, and it exhausted me.

As soon as I saw Waynesville Yoga Center was opening, I came. I am so thankful to Jay for a place where I feel safe, not self-conscious, and where I can attend classes that benefit me without feeling in competition with anyone else. Restorative and Yin have improved my flexibility and meditation skills; Beginner Flow, Flow Level 1 and Gentle Chair Yoga have increased my strength and balance and also challenged me, as has Barre and Balance!

I feel better than I ever have – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I have met so many new friends. All of the instructors I have had are wonderful and willing to share of themselves. Thank you, Jay, your endeavor is making a tremendous difference in so many lives!”

    – Terri M.

  • “After my first private session with Amber my body felt so good! Because of her guidance and personal assisting I highly recommend working with her.”

    – Barbara B.

  • “Thank you all so much for offering this. It has truly been a gift in my life and I am very grateful to be part of this class!”

    – Kristen, B

  • “Jay takes time to answer questions, to give help when needed in performing movements and is a gentle, calm person which helps my yoga experience.”

    – Anita S.

  • “That special moment when your body, mind and spirit blend into a yummy synchronized yogic OHMMMMMMM……..yeah, YTT has given me like a hundred of those so far! You guys are awesome!”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “YTT provided me with the tools and knowledge to deepen my own yoga practice and help others with theirs. This program challenged me in unforeseen ways and I am so thankful to have experienced this journey with such incredible teachers and fellow students. It was truly a life-changing experience.”

    – Hayley P.

  • “Jay is an always-patient, highly skilled teacher who makes everyone feel welcome and able to participate. Her class is always a joy and rewarding.”

    – Barbara S.

  • “What has set the program apart for me, as well, is the approach to teaching that encourages us not to focus on a “perfect” pose, but rather perfecting a pose within our bodies and the bodies of our students. This means everyone’s expression of a pose will be slightly different, and there is such beauty in that. It runs counter to so much that we are taught elsewhere in life.”

    – Kristen, B

  • “Amber is an incredibly gifted instructor, particularly when it comes to yoga. She is calming, thorough, and provides that extra-added touch of essential oils, gentle adjustments, and themed practices. I love that Amber’s yoga classes are dynamic and she’s taught moves in her classes that I’ve never done in 15 years of practicing yoga. She’s a breath of fresh air in the yoga scene. I highly recommend her!”
