Why YTT?

Why should you consider enrolling in the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Waynesville Yoga? Oh, let me count the ways:

1. Personal Growth

YTT will bring your unresolved “stuff” to the surface for examination and healing. It will push you to grow & evolve in ways that will surprise you. Sometimes these surprises will delight you; other times, they will frustrate or scare you. But cultivating the resources and courage to face your sh*t can be incredibly liberating. Our 200 hour YTT invites unique, empowering personal growth.

2. Overcoming Challenges

Is there anything more satisfying that overcoming a personal challenge, struggle, or roadblock? YTT helps you employ the principles of Yoga off the mat, in the rest of your life. It helps foster both strength and flexibility; helps you recognize your safe edge; and teaches you to how to stay steady in moments of intensity & heat. All of these tools offer enhanced personal freedom, joy, contentment, and grace.

3. Self Care & Retreat

But the program’s not just challenging! It’s also richly rewarding, nourishing, and calming. You’ll receive nervous system-soothing and powerfully de-stressing self care every weekend of the course, in the forms of yoga, meditation, and other somatic experiences. So many graduates share that it felt like a self care retreat to come to the center and be in our building & space each weekend.

4. Support & Community

Whether your an introvert or extrovert, the community and encouragement offered by your fellow YTT students is an invaluable source of support. You’ll build bonds with these folks that will honestly last a lifetime, whether you’re looking for that type of connection or not. 🙂 The unique combination of a deep inner journey, but at the same time and in the same format as your fellow travelers, offers camaraderie of spirit & amplification of the course material.

5. Direction

Many of us are searching for direction and clarity, post covid. We want to organize around something to move us forward, into the future, but are still navigating the complexities of the changed landscape around us (and possibly inside as well!). YTT offers a 10 month transformative journey, in which the gooey disintegration of the chrysalis transmutes, on a cellular level, into the graceful splendor of an entirely new being.

6. Understanding Yoga Better

No matter how deep or organic your personal practice might be, Yoga Teacher Training will greatly expand and nourish your relationship with the art of Yoga itself. You’ll get a taste of a variety of yoga styles, including Buti, Kundalini, Yin, Hot Stone Restorative – and much more. You’ll learn the inside out of human anatomy, as it relates to Yoga, and take a deep dive into each of the common poses.

Click here for more details about the syllabus.

7. Cultivating Harmony

Each of the weekends that you spend at YTT helps make the world a better place. You’re not only gifting yourself the medicine of the ancient science of Yoga; you’ll also scatter the tools & resources you gain in the program, like seeds, in your community. And of course intentionally plant some of these seeds as well. The gift of knowledge you receive through the program will ripple out in your life, cultivating harmony & peace in the world.

this COVID craziness

Can y’all believe we are almost 2 years into this mess!? As much as we would all like to find our new normal, the unrest stirred up by the pandemic is clearly not going anywhere any time soon…

Since we have zero control over the outcome – or progression – of this collective intensity, what can we do?

One method to honor the unsteadiness of the current time is to go for the things that pull on our heart strings. What makes you feel alive? What goals have you been quietly tending but never actually planting? What do you want to grow in 2022 – and beyond? Try to get clear about who & what do and don’t truly matter. And as you refine that list, identify concrete ways to commit to what makes the cut.

If you’ve toyed with getting your 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate, don’t wait. We have no idea what the world will look like a few months from now – much less in a year! 🙂 Take the plunge and honor your deepest desires, whether that’s YTT, learning to speak another language, changing jobs so you can spend more time with your family… whatever the past 2 years have taught you, honor it.

Remember that yoga & meditation are 2 of the most powerful tools you have to support physical & emotional wellbeing. We’re here to support your yoga & wellness practices, and hope what we offer at WYC helps you handle the ongoing craziness.

May 2022 be better than 2021! Above all, may we learn, grow, and be kind to ourselves & one another as we journey together…

. . . .

There’s only 2 weeks left to register for YTT – after that, you’ll have to wait another year! Don’t miss your chance… get all the details here.

2022 YTT Has Only 5 Spots Left

2022 YTT: Going, Going, Gone!

Heads up, y’all: we only have 5 spots left in our 2022 YTT program! That’s our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training curriculum, a 10 month program starting in January. Yes, it’s a big commitment of time, money, and energy. Yes, it’s challenging, both physically and mentally & emotionally.

Any YTT worth its salt (and really, anything in life worth doing) will push you to grow past your current limitations and help you discover powerful new parts of yourself.

Simply put, you can’t teach yoga effectively or safely without facing yourself. You can’t ask your students to show up, vulnerably & authentically on their mats, without being able and willing to swath that path for them first.

It’s a big, darn deal. And it’s totally worth it! As the 2021 class shared during their recent graduation ceremony: “Best f*cking decision! So glad I made it.”

We’re glad they think so, and absolutely love watching our YTT students bloom into a stronger, more clear version of themselves. It’s beautiful to witness them transforming over the course of the program from nervous & apprehensive to empowered and confident.

We Got You

Despite the inevitable challenges of the program, we provide so much support for your success (more than many other programs): study guides, one-on-one check-ins, the lead trainers available to answer questions any time, a small class size for better learning, and more. In fact, our program boasts a graduation rate of 91%!

If you’ve been considering taking the plunge, don’t wait! If the past 2 years has taught us anything, it’s that life is short & uncertain, and time waits for no one. One of the blessings of the pandemic is helping all of us to recognize what (and who) do or don’t matter – and to courageously claim what we truly want from our lives.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact us for details: ytt@waynesvilleyogacenter.com.
We’d love to explore if it’s the right fit for you.

Where Do You Want to Be?

Where do you want to be in a year from now? How do you want to move through the world, physically – emotionally – mentally? How dang good would it feel to be almost done with your 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and preparing to graduate the program?!

If you want to be a yoga instructor, you’d be finishing up student teaching assignments and starting to find a place to teach. If you don’t have teaching intentions, you would be completing a journey of self-discovery and deep yoga knowledge that benefits not only you, but your love ones & whole community.

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that life is short and uncertain. If you’ve been wanting to write that book, start it now. If you’re not happy in your job or relationships, make the changes needed to be fulfilled.

Time waits for no one, and if there are soul callings you were too busy or distracted to hear pre-pandemic, it’s time to honor them.

“Time waits for no one.”

As the intensity of the past year and a half begins to fade, this window of prioritization we’ve experienced will also close. While that’s a wonderful thing, on many levels, don’t let this chance to get clear about what really matters pass you by.

This is the time to confirm who & what matters – and doesn’t! Once we’re back on the busy train, it won’t be nearly so easy to “go for it”.

If you’ve been considering Yoga Teacher Training, join us for the 2022 program. We’re happy to provide references from graduates and alumni, or answer any questions you might have. We’d be honored to watch you bloom, blossom, and nail your goals over the next year!

going, going, gone!

Oh my goodness, y’all! We’ve already filled the lowest price tier for next year’s 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training! 🙂

We’re very happy that so many of you are taking this next step in your yoga journey, whether it’s your intention to teach, or simply to deepen your own commitment to yourself.

The past year and a half has certainly been an intense time, and it has created some deep changes in many of us. At very least, it is an opportunity to prioritize: to recognize what does and doesn’t matter.

To get clear about who and what are worth (or not worth!) our time & energy. It’s a chance to appreciate small, everyday blessings, like being able to connect with those we love and move about freely in the world.

And it’s a rich invitation to “get right with ourselves”: to be honest about whether or not we’re honoring our deepest desires, our most vital goals, our one precious, sacred life. Are we showing up authentically for ourselves and those who matter? If not, are we ready to wake up and make whatever changes are needed to answer the call of our soul?

“What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” – Mary Oliver

For some people, 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training is part of this process of reflection. Even if you never teach, YTT can provide direction, clarity, and insight about your life trajectory – and help you get on track if you’re not satisfied with where you’re headed. It will challenge you, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

But if you can sit in the heat of your own discomfort, you’ll learn, grow, evolve – and have a wonderful time with some truly amazing people! Every class is different – but every person who says “yes” to this journey has something to offer you, and each of our students has been truly phenomenal.

If you’ve been considering the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program at Waynesville Yoga Center, don’t wait! We’ve only got 4 spaces in the middle price tier, and we expect those to go quickly over the next few months. Click here for program details – or email us any time with specific questions: ytt AT waynesvilleyogacenter.com.

We look forward to connecting with you and seeing if YTT at WYC is right for you!

Announcing 2022 Yoga Teacher Training Dates & Details!

Where has this year gone!? As much as 2020 seemed to last forever, 2021 is flying past – it will be Christmas again before you know it! If you’re also watching the calendar flip by, we’ve got some 2022 dates for you to save: 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)! We’d love to have you join us for this life-changing adventure, and we’re excited to offer some changes to next year’s program:

More Consistent Schedule

In years past, we offered summers off, as many of our attendees travel, have kids who are on break from school, are school teachers themselves, etc. But we’ve gotten feedback from many of our graduates that the summer break made it too easy to get out of the habit of reading and keeping their heads in the YTT game. While they appreciated the time to catch up on the reading list, it also let them veer off track.

Additionally, they asked for more regularity in the calendar dates, to better support their learning momentum. Based on those requests, we’ve decided to try a more consistent schedule: a 10 month program – with at least 4 weeks in between each class – providing structure, consistency, and space to absorb the content.

(We do encourage students to start the reading list as soon as they sign up, as this will cultivate balance & calm during the program! 🙂)

More Spots Available

Now that covid is (thankfully!) fading, and we no longer have to socially distance in the studio, we can offer 2 more spots in the program. With a max of 14 participants accepted, you can still count on a supportive, intimate group. The honesty & connection that comes with a smaller group makes you a better teacher; and the focused teacher attention makes it easier to learn.

If you’ve been considering YTT, snag your spot now. We’ve already got a few people registered for the 2022 program, and expect to fill quickly. Remember that the earlier you pay your deposit, the less you pay overall**. We’re keeping the same rates as 2020, so what are you waiting for? Click here to commit to the journey! 🙂

**
// 1st 4 people to sign up pay $2,250
// 2nd 4 people to sign up pay $2,500
// final 6 people to sign up pay $2,750

2022 Dates

“Life Changing” –

As the intensity of 2020 shows no sign of letting up in early 2021, what tools are you using to stay healthy and sane? Knowledge of the chakras can help us stay balanced and calm in the midst of chaos & intensity.

By learning about these centers of electricity in the body – that affect everything from hormones to energy levels – we gain deeper understanding of both ourselves and the world around us.

As we tune into the intricate dance between our experience as humans and the rhythms of the natural world, we gain confidence, calm, and clarity. In exploring the ancient wisdom of the chakras, we examine our habitual patterns, inviting and making space for change, healing, and growth.

With more lockdowns looming, this could be the perfect time for a deep dive into yourself! Our year-long Chakra Deep Dive series is a chance to better understand how our growth from infancy impacts our daily lives, and how challenges we face in the here & now are connected to past experiences. By exploring the offerings of the chakras, we are better able to make sense of how we – and others – show up in the world.

We could all certainly use more compassion, understanding, and better communication as we approach the twelve month mark of this tumultuous past year. We’ve got a few virtual spots left in the 2021 program – click here to claim yours!

What’s Your Hangup!?

We all have them: hangups that become obstacles to meeting our goals. They’re valid, legitimate, and deserve to be honored & addressed! We’ve heard from several of you over the past few months who want to commit to our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) program in 2021, but have specific concerns. Thank you for sharing what matters to you, and for letting us address these common hangups to YTT! ♥

Obstacles to Yoga Teacher Training

Time

Yes, it’s a big commitment! But isn’t anything in life that really matters? Especially a journey of self-discovery that offers tools & resources for the rest of your life… Given that COVID will most likely alter our usual routines & schedules for at least the next six months (if not longer), this could actually be the perfect time to take the plunge.

Perhaps you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum: busier than ever, despite COVID. If you’re ready for this journey now but have prior commitments on one of the scheduled weekends, don’t let that stop you! We offer makeup options to accommodate the realities of busy modern life. Contact us for details…

Whether you have extra time right now – or are crazy busy – you are worth this investment of time and energy! ♥

(If it is safe to get out & about in six months, our program schedule offers the summer off, so you can get out and enjoy the world again! 🙂 )

Money

We get it: it’s all about the Benjamins. That’s true for all of us. However, don’t forget that the sooner you commit to our program, the less you pay! If you’ve been sitting on the fence, you could literally be costing yourself. Click here for price tier details.

Also, keep in mind that our program is more affordable than any other we’ve seen in the Southeast – and the cost of our reading list is less than other schools’ too. If you’re committed to getting your RYT-200, why not get the most bang for your buck?

Nerves

One of the most beautiful things that yoga offers each of us is the opportunity to face our fears and challenge our egos. “Am I strong enough? Am I smart enough? But I have that shoulder injury… I’ve only been practicing for a few years. What if they find out who I really am?”

You are strong enough. You are smart enough. Your Yoga is ready to receive your injuries, your past traumas, and all of the parts of yourself that you don’t like or are afraid to show the world. Your Yoga can support healing for every aspect of your life and every level of your being.

Our program doesn’t promise to fix your old injuries, or heal your deepest wounds. But it does provide the framework for you to heal – and take the best care possible – of yourself. It will give you the tools to prevent injury going forward and address injuries when they can’t be avoided. It will offer you the chance to realize that you’re more than enough, exactly the way you are.

Ready?

The next program starts on January 23, 2021 – we’re ready if you are! Click here to get started; or contact us if you need more information. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have: ytt@waynesvilleyogacenter.com // 828.246.6570

Still Not Sure?

Yoga Teacher Mentorship Program

Are you ready to teach yoga but not yet confident enough in your skills as a teacher? Or have you been teaching yoga for a while but feel like your teaching style is stale or stuck in a rut?

This mentorship program will help you evolve and grow as a teacher, coming into tune with your own original style and brand as you carve out a special niche for your classes and offerings.

This 12-week mentorship program is designed to help yoga teachers that are still struggling with teaching yoga and/or yoga teachers that are looking to change things up and feeling that their classes are stale or stuck in the same old routine that does not inspire them anymore!

Be prepared for a deep dive into unraveling the old patterns and habits around your yoga teaching styles and discovering what your true gifts and unique experiences can bring to your classes. With a fresh approach, you can change your mindset and challenge yourself to level-up on what you have to offer. This can be uncomfortable and intimidating at first, but ultimately rewarding.

If you are ready, join Jay MacDonald for this transformational experience!

Where: This program is mostly virtual, so if you are not local, you can still do this program! If you are local, and prefer in-person one-on-one meetings, then we can do that as well.

The curriculum itself is all virtual with one group call per week (if more than one person is participating) and one session that is one-on-one.

There will also be a FB page for asking questions in a more interactive format between the coaching calls.

When: This program is offered year round. In order to apply, you will need to fill out an informational application which can be downloaded here. Please send to hello@waynesvilleyogacenter.com once completed.

It Takes a Toll

First, there was the regular stress of our modern lifestyle: go-go-go, a million places to be at once, and a million things to accomplish at the same time. Most of us were already uber stressed out, trying to maintain overly full schedules and overly ambitious to-do lists. Then COVID hit, bringing with it waves of fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and strife.

A massive financial crisis; violent protests across the nation; a hyper divisive election season; and now another round of holidays, all while still dealing with the aforementioned crises. Whew. As my stepmother says “We’re all breathing the same air”, meaning that we’re all intimately connected and affect one another, whether we choose to recognize that or not.

Even if 2020 has brought blessings and needed change, we are biologically impacted by the suffering of those around us. It’s like how trees affect one another: we can’t escape it, even if we’re in a great space. And many of us are directly in the midst of suffering ourselves.

It’s a lot, and that stress, anxiety, and depression does a number on our bodies – and our minds!

Yes, practicing yoga can help with these challenges; but Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) can teach you how yoga helps. It explains the “science behind the magic” and gives you an enhanced ability to utilize these tools by understanding how they work; when to apply them; and how to maximize their impact.

YTT allows you to not just feel better in the moment yourself – it gives you the ability to make other people feel better, and to help them too. Even if you’re not teaching, you’ll naturally share your new found knowledge with your family, friends, and circles, meaning that the positive impacts of your yoga will extend far beyond your own mat.

In addition, you’ll experience yoga more deeply for yourself. Even if only for your own stress management and wellbeing, YTT empowers you to go far beyond just taking classes into having greater control over your health journey. You’ll learn how to better take care of your body and support it during times of stress, whether that’s the everyday intensity of our post-COVID lives… or getting through the rest of 2020 and all that it has brought to our doorsteps!

We’ve got one more spot left in the middle price tier – and a few more virtual spaces open for our 2021 program. Click here for more details about the program, or email us with specific questions: ytt@waynesvilleyogacenter.com

  • “When I first began practicing yoga, it seemed like the more I learned, the more I wanted to know. I bought a few books but still didn’t feel like a real student of the practice of yoga. When the 200 hour YTT was offered, I saw it as the perfect chance to really expand my knowledge. I have come to realize that with this deep dive into the practice of yoga, I have a strong knowledge bank that will allow me to continue to expand my knowledge of yoga for years to come.”

    – Jann F.

  • “Jay met me prior to class to help me polish my yoga teaching skills. I really appreciate her willingness to meet and teach me to make me a better instructor.”

    – Brooke H.

  • “Jay is a wonderful yoga instructor; has great variety in classes; is always dependable (there and on time); is kind and understanding; and always available to answer questions and give additional instruction if necessary. She is calm and classes are enjoyable no matter the challenge.”

    – Myndie S.

  • “With all of my health issues, I never would have believed I could ever learn to teach yoga. WYC’s Real Yoga for Real Bodies built my confidence as a leader, reminding me that my journey is my strength, and I will actually be a better teacher because of the challenges I’ve experienced. Thank you so much for creating a program that encouraged us to bring the beauty and the beast through this incredible transformation.”

    – CJH

  • “After my first private session with Amber my body felt so good! Because of her guidance and personal assisting I highly recommend working with her.”

    – Barbara B.

  • “Since I started taking classes at Waynesville Yoga Center, I can now go down the stairs ‘normally’, instead of one foot at a time. I’m really pleased with how these classes are helping me.”

    – Carol L.

  • “What has set the program apart for me, as well, is the approach to teaching that encourages us not to focus on a “perfect” pose, but rather perfecting a pose within our bodies and the bodies of our students. This means everyone’s expression of a pose will be slightly different, and there is such beauty in that. It runs counter to so much that we are taught elsewhere in life.”

    – Kristen, B

  • I signed up for YTT thinking I had time to myself to focus on me, but the world has other plans. It’s still the best decision I’ve made, and I am so grateful that what I have learned has come to me at a time that I can apply it to so much real world trauma. This YTT has been a saving grace!

    – Kim T.

  • “Jay is an always-patient, highly skilled teacher who makes everyone feel welcome and able to participate. Her class is always a joy and rewarding.”

    – Barbara S.

  • “WYC YTT has given me such tremendous depth in my practice of yoga on and off the mat. I’ve loved seeing my evolution this year as I learned all the ways I can add yoga to my home and work life. I started just expecting to build a stronger personal practice, but now I am so excited to see where this will all take me in the years to come.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “I woke up one morning and realized I was 60 years old, that I could live well into my 80s and that I had to do something to improve my strength and stamina if I wanted a good quality of life. I was caring for small grandchildren periodically, and it exhausted me.

As soon as I saw Waynesville Yoga Center was opening, I came. I am so thankful to Jay for a place where I feel safe, not self-conscious, and where I can attend classes that benefit me without feeling in competition with anyone else. Restorative and Yin have improved my flexibility and meditation skills; Beginner Flow, Flow Level 1 and Gentle Chair Yoga have increased my strength and balance and also challenged me, as has Barre and Balance!

I feel better than I ever have – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I have met so many new friends. All of the instructors I have had are wonderful and willing to share of themselves. Thank you, Jay, your endeavor is making a tremendous difference in so many lives!”

    – Terri M.

  • “Jay takes time to answer questions, to give help when needed in performing movements and is a gentle, calm person which helps my yoga experience.”

    – Anita S.

  • “I haven’t felt this good since I got my puppy, ten years ago!…”

    – Steve S.

  • “I waited years looking for the right yoga teacher training program and WYC was definitely the reason why. I’m absolutely convinced I could not have found a program that was more creative, inclusive, or supportive. I would definitely attribute that to the meticulous design of the curriculum and incredibly talented teachers you brought in to lead so many cool facets of the course. You drew in some of the most amazing students with all this awesomeness and I’ve been so thrilled to learn alongside them this year so thank you, thank you, thank you for every last delicious bit of it.”

    – CJH

  • “Thank you all so much for offering this. It has truly been a gift in my life and I am very grateful to be part of this class!”

    – Kristen, B

  • “One of the things I have loved about the program is that we are not just learning how to teach certain poses; I have been learning things I didn’t even know I could learn about yoga in general, including about the subtle energies, how they tie to both anatomy and the philosophy of yoga.”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “That special moment when your body, mind and spirit blend into a yummy synchronized yogic OHMMMMMMM……..yeah, YTT has given me like a hundred of those so far! You guys are awesome!”

    – 2019 YTT Student

  • “My experience during my YTT at WYC has not only increased my confidence on the mat but has opened up endless possibilities and opportunities for a courageous, confident, and grateful life off the mat. “

    – Teresa F.

  • “Amber is an incredibly gifted instructor, particularly when it comes to yoga. She is calming, thorough, and provides that extra-added touch of essential oils, gentle adjustments, and themed practices. I love that Amber’s yoga classes are dynamic and she’s taught moves in her classes that I’ve never done in 15 years of practicing yoga. She’s a breath of fresh air in the yoga scene. I highly recommend her!”

    – Christine G.

  • “Amber, you’re an incredible teacher! You are a natural at creating flows that challenge and inspire your students.”

    – Michelle G.C.

  • “YTT provided me with the tools and knowledge to deepen my own yoga practice and help others with theirs. This program challenged me in unforeseen ways and I am so thankful to have experienced this journey with such incredible teachers and fellow students. It was truly a life-changing experience.”
