Yoga for the Weary: Care for Caregivers // a two week virtual program

As of the middle of March, we will officially be a year into this declared pandemic and while we might be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, fighting this virus has heightened our awareness of the toll that caregiving can take on us.
Some of us are paid caregivers—those working in hospitals, clinics, care facilities and other places where people have been hit hard. Others of us have been doing the unpaid work of taking care of family members or friends, perhaps for much longer than the pandemic has been going on. Formal or informal, paid or unpaid, many of us have been in a position of caring for others at one time or another.
Well-intentioned friends remind you to “take care of yourself,” but in stressful times, this can feel like just one more thing on an already over-stuffed To Do list. At the same time, we also know that we cannot keep giving what we no longer have within us.
We are all too aware that when we become stressed and overworked, and time becomes scarce, the first thing to go is our care for ourselves.
What to Expect
This is a virtual seminar for those of you who are exhausted from the daily work of caregiving, in whatever capacity you are doing it.
This seminar will draw on some basics from the wisdom of the Yamas and Niyamas of Yoga, and the insights they can bring around caring for others and caring for ourselves, as well as incorporate breath work, body movement, and mindfulness exercises.
This program will kick off on March 15th and run until March 27th and is structured to offer two to three exercises daily for six days, a rest day on the seventh to let things sink in, and another six days of two to three daily exercises offered. The short daily practices (usually 5-15 minutes long) are for mind, body, and spirit- so that you can choose which ones to use and when.
You’ll get practical ideas for fitting pockets of self-care into your day or week, and support for how to make it happen. You are important, and figuring out how to sustain yourself, particularly as you care for others, is essential to being able to carry on.
We all know that when you are doing the hard work of caregiving sometimes it isn’t possible to find a full hour to take a regular yoga class. This design is intended to give you options for a busy schedule. The hope is also that it offers you some tools to take care of yourself in the “cracks” of daily life—those moments waiting at a red light, or in line at the store, or doing dishes.
Cost: $100 // $90 for Health Care Workers (please submit verification to hello@waynesvilleyogacenter.com upon enrollment)
