Yoga + Hike Series: Middle Prong Wilderness Hike
Yoga + The Woods: a perfect marriage for a deep exhale and reconnection with the Earth, your breath and your higher self!
This is a 3 hike series with each hike being slightly more challenging. You can choose to do one hike or complete all three. The first two hikes will be off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Nantahala National Forest and Middle Prong Wilderness respectively. The culmination of the series will be a hike to the stunning 360 degree view at The Pinnacle near Sylva, NC. The hike starts in Pinnacle Park and ascends an old logging road through the Nantahala National Forest to the summit of The Pinnacle.
All hikes are an “out and back” format with a 45 minute yoga class at the summit, guided by Tara Scarborough. The pace will be slow with plenty of time allotted for rest, water and snack breaks. The first two hikes would be appropriate for all fitness levels, while the Pinnacle Peak ascent is challenging! We will meet for all events at the yoga studio to car pool to the trailhead.
We’re also offering a discount if you commit to all 3 hikes in the series for $108. Hikes will run with a minimum 3 people and a maximum of 8- so be sure to register early and hold your spot!
We will be closing registration the THURSDAY before each hike, and will ask everyone to complete a brief medical history form to be gone over by the instructor, as well as a liability waiver.

Nice to haves:

Saturday June 1; 8am-11am: Bear Pen Gap Hike (3 hours total, including drive time) ($30)
This is a gentle hike along the Bear Pen Gap trail to the Mountains to Sea trail. It concludes in a field at Wet Camp Gap. Total distance is 2.78 miles roundtrip with a small elevation gain of 182 feet. The trail is mainly on an old logging road but there are a few rocky spots.
—> Saturday Aug 3; 8am-11am: Middle Prong Wilderness Hike (3 hours total) ($38)
This delightful 3.7 mile hike is mainly on the Mountains to Sea trail through the Middle Prong Wildnerness. It finishes at an unnamed bald with spectacular views south and towards Richland Balsam. It features a couple of easily traversed creek crossings and is mostly flat over gentle trails to the final 3/4 of a mile where most of the 403 foot ascent is found.
Saturday Sept 14; 8am-2pm: The Pinnacle Hike (6 hours total) ($50)
The conclusion of the series is a spectacular. 6.7 mile hike. It is a challenging hike with just over a 2000 foot elevation gain but don’t let that intimidate you! The summit is truly worth the effort! We will plan on this event taking most of the day, so we can rest often to achieve our “Pinnacle.” The trail is very rocky in spots and follows old logging roads until the last 1/8 of a mile where the trail becomes narrow at the rock summit. The summit is an amazing spot to get some yoga pose pictures!
